FAQs
FUNCTIONAL WARES:
What is the best way to wash my ceramic piece?
The best way to wash your handmade ceramic pieces is by hand with warm soapy water and a gentle brush or sponge.
As tempting as it may be to throw your piece into the dishwasher with the remainder of your dishes, these handmade ceramics will last longer if taken care of in a more gentle manner. Since typical dishwasher detergents contain harsher chemicals than your average countertop dishsoap they may accidentally destroy your cherished pieces when regularly put through harsh environments like a dish washer.
I also advise against leaving your pieces submerged in water or soaking for an extended time as this too can potentially weaken your ceramic piece over time. Common sense is key when taking care of your precious pieces.
Are your ceramic pieces microwave safe?
Similarly to the idea of dishwashers, microwaves may also be detrimental to the longevity of your ceramic wares.
Overtime as your pieces are used for food, beverages, washed, dried, or accidentally left soaking in a sink with water they may absorb a small minute amount of water. Microwaves work by heating the water molecules and so although it is unlikely, this could potentially cause thermal shock in the ware and may crack the glaze or the ware itself.
With that in mind, I do occasionally microwave my own wares at home. As long as you are doing so infrequently and not daily/multiple times a day, your wares should have no adverse affects. However, it is still recommended not to microwave them for the longevity of your wares.
Are your glazes food safe?
All of the glazes I make are food safe and do not contain any lead, heavy metals, or other potentially hazardous materials.
If there is ever a time where I create a glaze that is not food safe if will be clearly marked on the products page and a note will be delivered with the ware as a reminder that the piece that was bought is not food safe.
However I have no plans or intentions of ever creating a glaze that would not be food safe for any of my functional wares.
Will your pieces scratch my table, furniture, or floor?
I sand and polish the bottom of every piece I make so that you can enjoy using them without worrying about scratching your furniture.
Fine Art Pieces:
What is the best way to clean and care for my piece?
The best way to take care of your pieces is just with a light dusting unless otherwise specified. Each Fine art piece comes with a care card of its own in case there is anything unusual in taking care of it and keeping it in pristine condition.
